Makers and Shakers: Artists and Cultural Leaders of Lowertown
Sara Remke
Co-Owner Black Dog Cafe
Sara Remke has sustained the Lowertown Arts Community for 20 years as co-owner of the Black Dog Cafe (opened in 1998). The Black Dog was home to Minnesota sur Seine, an international music festival started by Sara and her partner, French music producer, Jean Rochard. It featured international musicians from such places as Morocco, France, Germany and England. The Cafe was an original supporter of Jazz Fest with the founding of LED (Lowertown Entertainment District) while also sponsoring block parties featuring music and dance, holding exhibitions of painters and photographers and nearly nightly music and spoken word events. In addition to her role at the Cafe, Sara teaches energy/meditation classes.
